Measurement is accomplished via a linear scale (1/2 mm increment) mounted and indexed to the rear of the board.
End planes are removable for ease of shipment and storage.

Do not use the mounted scale alone to measure mid-shaft. The scale is offset to compensate for the thickness of the measuring plates and mounting point.

Based on the same dimensions and design as the classic instrument that has been used by anthropologists since the beginning of last century but updated with modern materials and utilizing state of the art manufacturing techniques.
Main body is machined out of aircraft grade 1/4 inch aluminum plate.
Scale is machined stainless and permanently laser engraved 0 - 30 cm in 1mm increments.

Ground stainless steel ball ends
Assure accuracy after long term use
Prevent damage to the measured specimen.
Ground pointed ends
For precise measurement.
Joint surface utilizes a stainless steel contact plate to afford even friction along the measurement range eliminating the need for a thumb lock.

Every Caliper is calibrated and checked using the same method as the standard spreading calipers.

If arms ever become bent, it is very easy to return them to flat. If they seem damaged beyond the ability for you to repair, send them to me and I will fix it for free if at all possible.
